Senior Accountant - Full-Time (On-Site in Davis, CA)
Ledgent, a Roth Staffing Company, is recruiting on behalf of our client in Davis, CA for an experienced Senior Accountant to join a collaborative and mission-driven team. This is a full-time, on-site position with the opportunity for limited hybrid flexibility following onboarding.
Position Overview
Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Accountant will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial operations across the organization. This role requires broad experience in accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger management, and financial reporting.
The Senior Accountant will assist with monthly and annual close processes, prepare analyses for leadership, maintain fiscal records, and help implement process-improving tools and software.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Support and monitor the month-end close process.
- Prepare accurate journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations (including assets, investments, revenue, expenses, and payroll allocations).
- Handle desktop deposits as needed.
- Review monthly AR and AP aging, ensuring accuracy of month-end balances.
- Research unreconciled items and identify discrepancy sources.
- Review sales tax processes and recommend efficiencies.
- Prepare and file state sales and use tax returns.
- Investigate P&L variances and determine root causes.
- Review departmental financials with department leaders to ensure accuracy and correct classification.
- Maintain and reconcile fixed asset records.
- Analyze, research, and record sales receipts; ensure correct posting in collaboration with team members.
- Assist with internal control audits, report generation, and documentation requests.
- Prepare, reconcile, and file annual property tax returns as required in various jurisdictions.
- Complete monthly reconciliations for key balance sheet accounts, credit cards, and bank accounts.
- Prepare and post journal entries.
- Enter, maintain, and update annual budgets.
- Review credit card statements and compile supporting receipts and documentation.
- Monitor and close purchase requisitions.
- Manage annual regulatory and licensing requirements.
- Perform special projects as assigned.
- Provide support with accounts payable, sales tax, and additional accounting tasks as needed.
Ideal Candidate Profile

- Have a strong understanding of GAAP.
- Bring knowledge of fixed asset accounting and sales/use tax (preferred).

- Assign GL accounts accurately and cross-reference purchase requisitions appropriately.

- Are proficient with accounting systems and productivity tools, including QuickBooks Desktop, Microsoft Office, email platforms, Adobe, Smartsheet, and other financial software.
- Understand end-to-end accounting processes and best practices.
- Can manage monthly and quarterly responsibilities independently and efficiently.
- Communicate clearly-both written and verbal.
- Work well independently and collaboratively.
- Are adaptable, open to learning, and comfortable with cross-training.
Qualifications
- 4+ years of progressively responsible experience in accounting, finance, or business administration.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
Physical Requirements
This role may require reaching, grasping, talking, hearing, visual focus, repetitive motion, and the ability to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally and up to 10 pounds frequently.
